1975 World Series

These past few weeks have been quite eventful in the world of baseball. Starting on October 11th and ending on the 22nd, the official 1975 World Series was held. This year “pitched” the Boston Red Sox against the Cincinnati Reds. This year the series took all seven games to decide the winner. In the end, the Cincinnati Reds won the World Series 4 games to 3.

The series started off relatively slow and only picked up during the later games of the series. During the first game, it was scoreless until the 7th inning. Boston managed to score 6 runs in a single inning, a score that Cincinnati was unable to reply to. Boston won the first game 6-0. Game two seemed like a guaranteed Boston win going into the 9th inning by leading 2-1. Cincinnati was able to score twice in the bottom of the 9th to snatch the win away from Boston with a 3-2 win. With the series tied up, both teams went into the third game hoping to gain an advantage over the other. Both teams desire to gain the advantage was evident in the fact that the game went into the 10th inning tied 5-5. Cincinnati was able to score a single run to win 6-5, putting them ahead of Boston in the series. Game four looked like another Cincinnati win early in the 1st inning when they scored 2 runs; however, Boston was able to score 5 runs in the 4th inning, which Cincinnati answered with 2 more runs. No more runs would be scored during the game, leaving the final score of 5-4 for a Boston win.

Again, the series is tied up 2-2. Game five was a bit more eventful, with single runs being score for the most part. Boston scored two singles in the 1st and 9th innings. Cincinnati had a tremendous game with singles in the 4th, 5th, and 8th innings and 3 runs in the 6th. This gave Cincinnati their third win of 6-2. Game six was meant to be played on October 18th, but was postponed due to rain until the 21st. This was the standout game of the series, one that will probably become known as a classic in the MLB. It ran for a total of 12 innings at Boston’s Fenway Park. Both teams went into the 8th inning tied 6-6. Neither team was able to score again until the 12th inning when Boston scored a run. Boston won game six 7-6.

With both teams tied in the series, game seven would determine the World Series Champions. Boston was able to score 3 runs in the 3rd inning, but that is as much as they would be able to get. Cincinnati scored 2 runs in the 6th inning and 1 more run in the seventh. With the game tied, Cincinnati solidified their victory with a run in the 9th, winning the game 4-3. The constant tension and ties made this an incredible World Series and it will surely go down in history as one of the most exciting.

  1. I bet these games also had their fans’ hearts racing. It is incredible how evenly matched the Red Sox and the Reds were since it was hard for both to top the other, as shown by game three and game six. I bet that first game with the six runs gave the Red Sox a lot of confidence about how the series would go, especially since the Reds weren’t able to score at all. In addition, this confidence might have also been there when they were able to score 3 runs by the 3rd inning of the last game while Cincinnati wasn’t able to do score anything at that time. Although, I don’t know much about baseball this is a series I would be content to watch. - Adriana Garcia

    1. This really did seem like a World Series that will be remembered forever. I can't imagine how the fans were feeling when everything was all tied up, let alone how the players felt. This kind of reminded me about the basketball All Star Game. Anything can change and no one is the clear winner until the end of the game. Football is different since the score is so much higher, but baseball has you on the edge of your seat most of the time.

  2. I bet that was a great finish to the season for the baseball fans of our country. Baseball generally seems to be a slow game, but when the two teams are really good, it can be exciting to watch. It seems that this game must have caused a lot of nail biting in the crowd. I would be nervous as a fan and as a player because it was tied the majority of the series. Going back and forth must have been exhausting. What a fun baseball season!

  3. It is super cool when the World Series go the full 7 games, and also so riveting. Back then baseball was a really big sport so I can only imagine how baseball player fans got when the series went the full 7. Was there any key players that made the games fun to watch, or were there any players that took the team to the next level? Also it is crazy to see Boston in another world series it seems like they were in them a lot but always lost up until this past decade. I wonder how different baseball games were back then too, and if they had the same types of food. What do you think?
